“VERTICAL MUSIC” IN SANREMO
“Music 2024”, dedicated to “vertical music” will take place at the Palafiori in Sanremo from 8 to 10 February 2024; participation is free, and registration must be done by 31 December 2023.

IN COLLABORATION WITH AIRE.SOS
The event is organized in collaboration with AIRE.SOS, the non-profit company that some expatriates created to help Italian citizens residing abroad; in fact, out of competition, all Italians who live outside our national borders will also be able to participate in the initiative. “Music 2024 can represent an important opportunity to involve our communities abroad; some consulates are already working to facilitate this involvement”, said the President of AIRE.SOS Monica Monti.

BUT WHAT IS “VERTICAL MUSIC”?
In the history of entertainment product formats, “vertical” video has always been discriminated against and horizontal formatting was the standard used in the film industry and in the VHS-based video communications industry. The primacy of the 16:9 video aspect ratio was so entrenched that even in the early years of YouTube there was a lot of resistance to the use of the vertical standard of mobile phones. Since 2010, the use of the vertical smartphone format has been growing and today the 9:16 format is becoming popular.
Vertical music was born with the use of the smart phone and represents the best example of how visual and audio communication has developed in recent times.

THE 3 MINUTE VIDEO CLIP FESTIVAL
The “Vertical Music Festival” is a multimedia project that embraces different forms of expression. This is an event dedicated to the world of video-music and vertical images, with a review of video clips and photos all with 9:16 format; the minimum duration of the video clips is 1 minute and the maximum duration is 3 minutes; artistic photos are also aceted in the same vertical format. Entrants with varying levels of experience are welcome, allowing products to be created by professionals as well as amateur artists.

A COMPETITION WITH THREE SECTIONS
From this showcase of visual and musical art there will be a winner for each of the categories present:
vertical unpublished photos, vertical clips and vertical photos. The three proposed sections have the aim of describing today’s world, a world dominated by the use of smartphones.
The Festival will have a scenography with a great visual impact: a 50 square meter screen (5×10 m) will be used on which the competing films will be projected.

UNPUBLISHED VERTICALS
The video clips presented during the festival in this section must have original musical pieces and be made in the classic 9:16 vertical format. These unreleased video clips will be judged by a jury that will reward the best direction, the best author’s idea and the best music.

VERTICAL CLIP
In this section, video clips of musical pieces that are not necessarily original will be presented; The format is always the vertical one and the best direction and the most innovative author’s idea will be rewarded.

VERTICAL PHOTO
This section presents photos which, in the usual vertical format, are inspired by music; the winning photo will be used as the cover of the next edition of the Vertical Music festival.

A SPECIAL JURY
The “network” will have a critical role in the realization of this event: in fact the “network” will be entrusted with choosing the best videos that will enter the final phase of the competition, but the network will share with the jury of “critics” also chooses the winners for the various sections.

BORN FROM AN IDEA OF NINFA AND RECCHIA
The event was born from an idea of Maurizio Ninfa, who will be the production director, and Riccardo Recchia, who will be the artistic director. Ninfa, organizer of important events, and Recchia, director and author, took inspiration from the now consolidated use of the device most used by everyone: the smartphone; but they also thought about the increasingly widespread use of vertical images, present in advertising and communications on social media. Furthermore, it is now clear that cinema and television are increasingly being replaced by communications via smartphone and no longer represent the way to make music and video music.
The Vertical Music Project will make its debut at the Sanremo Festival 2024, but is destined to become an annual event for those who want to make art with their smartphone.
