The diplomatic-consular representation can provide the compatriot subjected to detention, arrest or detention a list of reference professionals to contact to be represented in court. The legal costs are borne by the citizen concerned. In cases of proven poverty and particularly serious, it is possible to provide financial aid for the payment of legal costs in the form of:
- subsidy for residents abroad in the relevant district;
- loan with promise of repayment for compatriots in transit.
The Representation, before disbursing the loan in favor of compatriots detained abroad, will first ascertain the possible availability of family members in Italy to bear the related expenses.
